I went on a journey to find the best magnesium in the market for my family. I applied a methodological approach and found the product that wins on the most important factors: health benefits, ingredients and price.
Sometimes supplement brands are not very transparent and the most important information is hard to find. Read on to see how I scored the products I tried, discover the details behind each score and learn from how I found these hidden nuances — so you don't have to!
Firstly, I wanted to make sure I tested all of the leading magnesium products out there, but I also wanted to be fair in my process, so I used the criteria below:
I purchased and carefully tested over 20 products, a few pictured below that passed this test and would then go through the process.

My ABSOLUTE favorite! Envitamin Ultra Magnesium checked all of my boxes: ️
When we tested this against other brands, Ultra Magnesium came up at the top. Customers love this brand and it’s easy to see why. With 3 types of magnesium, this product is the best on the market.
High absorption rates and a formula that actually works, is a great reason to trust this product over others.
One thing to note is the difference between magnesium and elemental magnesium. Most brands only list the amount of magnesium in the product, without converting the nutrition facts to how much elemental magnesium is in the product.
Envitamin, unlike most brands actually lists both-- 1700mg of threonate/glycinate/taurinate magnesium, which contains 200mg elemental magnesium.
Most brands don't tell you how much elemental magnesium is actually in the product, making it seem like you are getting better value than you are, but in reality, the product is full of fillers!
We love this product and the fact that its recommended by a DPT & ISSA Certified nutrition specialist, and doublewood is a upcoming trusted brand, albeit pretty new. Doublewood is featured in such programs such as Joe Rogan.
Expensive for what you get. We do like the ingredient profile, and felt good while using it, we were turned off by the price, which is why its only #3 on our list.
After my rigorous tests we found it wasn’t worth the money. Overall too expensive, and the product itself was average. We thought that other options were better based on the pros and cons
The product is good, but we feel like it isn’t the best value for the money based on its ingredient profile and price. Calm is quite a popular brand of magnesium. We thought the taste itself wasn’t as good as some other brands, but the ingredient profile was on point, which is why this made our list.
The price is right, and many customers like the product, however the nature made capsules have a warning label that it may contain lead. We aren’t sure if this is just a regulatory issue the product is working on fixing, and if it weren’t for this we would have rated this product higher.
Out of all the products I tested it made me feel the best, had a top notch supplement profile. I was looking for a product that would help me in my everyday life, from feeling less anxiety through the day to sleeping better.
